Report

The Branch Cup Final 2012, vs Baddeley Green, who did us a favour by only bringing 10 men. The game started brightly for us, after a couple of early chances, Callum picked out Ian with a great through ball, but Ian was brought down and the penalty given. Ian who was celebrating a birthday and captain for the day, smashed the penalty home to make it 1-0. The second wasn’t long after, Kieren Sefton found Ian inside the box, who took it wide then smashed it home with such venom the net nearly came off. We started to play some nice football through the middle of the pitch as we started to dominate. Josh then picked out Dan with a nice long ball across the floor, which left Dan to accelerate past his marker then find the net with his usual style. Dan then had a couple more chances, one he bent just wide of the post. Kieren Sefton had a couple from distance and Sway brought a brilliant save from the keeper, as he clawed a curling shot out of the top corner. The fourth came just before half time, Louis beat his man by the dead-ball line, put in a great cross, and Ian headed home from close range. Jack Moran then bent one from distance just over the bar.  With rolling subs all through the match, the team adapted well to numerous changes. The second half was all about getting Scott and Kieran Edgerton a goal as they hadn’t scored all season. Scott had 4 chances to score but couldn’t get his elusive goal, in fact he even bundled the keeper and ball into the net at one stage, and 50 years ago it might have been a goal, but the ref gave a foul for some reason. Josh then combined with Giggy down the right hand side, Giggy cut in and found the bottom corner with style. Giggy then combined with Sway, before he raced into the box and smashed home again with style. Whilst Scott couldn’t score, Kieran chose the last 10 minutes to score 2 ‘worldy’ goals. Joel played him in to the dead-ball line, and he flicked the ball over his marker, jinked inside him, and then smashed it high above the keeper for a quality goal. Ian then picked him out, and Key bent one in form the edge of the box to make it 8-0. Spike deserves a special mention, he stood in for Clark and kept a clean sheet with some dodgy defensive line-ups in front of him, and goal chasing defenders. It was a real fun day, enjoyable match, great team performance and a good way to end the season.
