A PROUD MAN
18 Mar 2010

I would like to express my pride to anyone who takes the time to read this note of how proud a man can be of a group of young men who were put together at the beginning of this season, (09/10), under very tough circumstances. These boys have demonstrated to me time and time again their commitment to their team, because thats what it is, their team, the way that they turn up every single week to train, in all weathers, they way they play for each other, they way they play for me and the other coaching staff. Sometimes we have our differences and sometimes some of them think they are better than they are but we get on with it. All in all we will continue to work together as a team without poaching players from every where else, (unlike P.T. Colts), until something unforseen happens.

A BRIEF HISTORY OF OUR SQUAD
19 Oct 2009

The Mumbles Rangers squad was first put together in season 2002/2003 with their football being training only every Sunday morning at Underhill Park. Most of the boys at this time were under 6 years of age. This continued for the whole season.
The following year, (2003/2004), was much the same i.e. training every Sunday but now we would play a competitive match every now and again.
Season 2004/2005 was our first year as a registered team competing in Swansea Junior League as under 8's the players included :-
Joe Yeates, Thomas Brett, Lewis Jones, Jack Shouaib, Elliot Leggett, Iyago Bratley, Wiliiam Davies, Cian Richards and Jack Beynon.
This season went very well and was rounded off with a runners up trophy at our first tournament The Aberavon Green Stars Football Festival, which we lost on corner count back, (we woz robbed), our player of the year was Elliot Leggett and our clubman was
The following year, 2005/2006, now under 9's were were joined by some new faces but lost some old ones. We now had enough players to start a second team, (Mumbles Albion).
Its amazing that even at this young age the team would have tough games against certain other teams, not dirty or bad tempered just good old fashioned tough but fair games. One of these teams was Port Tennant Colts, lose, win, draw, lose, win, draw. We managed to get through to the final of The Alan Martin Football Festival our second final in two seasons, against who - Port Tennant Colts. A brilliant game scoreless after normal time, scoreless after extra time so on to the dreaded penalties, we lost 5-4, gutted, runners up again.
The next season,( 2006.2007), under 10's now and getting bigger all the time was one of the most successfull seasons of football to date again reaching the final of The Alan Martin Football Festival, (third final in three seasons),again losing on penaties this time to another great rival, Treboeth Utd. Wiinning, yes winning the first ever Playfootball one day tournament and then winning the Playfootball Summer League with games to spare. In our league, Swansea Junior League we managed to string together a winning run of 29 wins, awesome. What a year that was !
Season 2007/2008 under 11's was back down to earth with a bit of a bump. Some player left the team, or rather their parents took them to other teams, because they know better or think they do, or they think their boys are actually better than they really are. The same basic nucleus of players remained and we got on with the job. We did'nt manage any hounours this year apart from a semi final, (Swansea Junior League Football Festival), losing to eventual winners Garden Village. In our league we did rather well playing 72 games, (three every Saturday), and only losing eight. By now the boys were looking foward to playing proper football next season - 11 a side !
Season 2008/2009 finally came, 11 a side, the beautiful game in all its glory, fantastic. In reality we were struggling, we did manage to sign a few players and off we went. We played Prescelli Ragged as our first ever 11 a side fixture and lost, heavily, 8-3, (welcome to proper football lads). The highlights of the season were a semi-final against Talycopa, (where only nine our our players turned up, half term hols), which we narrowly lost 3-2 and two games against two of the better teams in our division Landore Colts and Treboeth Utd. O.K. we lost both games but only by one goal in both cases and prove to ourselves that we were not that far from the better teams.
