***Don't forget Presentation Evening @ Mumbles Cricket Club on Sunday - meet 6.30-6.45*** Congratulations to Rhys, Joel & Ceri who have all been appointed to officiate at Junior League Cup Finals this weekend***
Our final game ever was played at a surprisingly sunny - if wind - Mynydd Newydd against our old friends and close rivals, Murton Rovers. The game was a typical Albion performnce; we were by far the better team, creating numerous chances, scoring a spectacular goal and then lost due to silly mistakes. Playing into the strong wind, our back four of Dexter, Callum, Joel & Josh coped well with everything Murton could throw at them. Because the midfield was congested, our best opportunities came from Peter attacking his full-back and Owen hustling & hassling all of their back four. Only a lack of composure or an awkward ricochet stopped us from scoring. Based on recent experience, it was inevitable then that Murton should score with their only attempt on target. A corner was fired in to our goalmouth but Ethan misjudged the flight and could only divert it into the net. 1-nil at half time. Three minutes into the second half we were level; Andrew Sheils "persuaded" Joel that he was the best man to take a free-kick 25 yards out.....and rifled a real beauty into the top corner. For the next 20 minutes the game was all Albion, although we were guilty of probably not shooting soon enough on many occasions. Nonetheless, Rhys hit the bar twice - one from a well-struck free-kick - and forced the keeper to save. Andrew created a couple of great chances for Dex & Joel with two perfect corners, but we couldn't add to our score. With 5 minutes left, they had another corner and a simple header gave them the decisive score. Frustrating, exasperating, unjust.....all of the adjectives we've used so often over the last 9 years! Maybe we just have to accept that's the way we are; hopefully, the happy memories will live longer than the frustration!!
