The Newark Town Sunday side was set up in 2001 by Kevin Franks with help from Alan Williams and Dave Lord. The bulk of the team was made up of players who played for Franks in the Town Saturday Reserve team and for Lord's successful Muskham side who had just played their final game in youth football.
After acceptance into the Newark Football Alliance Town began life at Muskham's old Nelson Lane ground and, indeed, wearing Muskham's old yellow and blue kit. The first season proved to be a hard slog with Town only able to finish a respectable yet distant 4th.
The following season began in the same vein, with inconsitancy the main enemy, until a post-christmas run which saw Town get within a whisker of promotion. There was to be a silver lining, however, when they claimed their first silverware - a fantastic 3-1 victory over Chesters in the Pat Jepson Cup final.
From there on in it's been glory all the way with the 3rd, 2nd and 1st Division titles all sitting proudly in the trophy cabinet. This season sees The Blues take their place in the Senior Division of the Alliance for the first time.
Town now play at Devon Park and in the clubs tradional sky and navy blue kit.
The Reserve side came into existence in the summer of 2004. The Rutland manager Scott Whittaker approached Kev Franks at the league AGM asking for a merger when it became clear his side were struggling for players. Franks accepted and the newly formed side took their place in the 3rd Division in time for the 2004/2005 season.
The Reserves have endured a torrid couple of seasons, often struggling with instability (there's been at least 5 managers in the last 2 seasons), but with Dave Lord looking set to take the reigns with a clutch of promising youngsters at his disposal it is hoped that a bright future lies ahead.
