After its Senior Saturday Teams had been in the doldrums for a number of seasons Newark Town FC took the bold step at the start of Season 2003-04 of appointing two former semi-professional footballers, Tony Joynes and Brett McNamara, as their Joint Managers.
This brought immediate success as the Club won the Notts Alliance Division One Championship and gained admittance to the Central Midlands Football League Premier Division.
The team continued to flourish in its first season in the CMFL and only the failure to take three points from its final game of the season denied it promotion to the Supreme Division and it had to settle for 7th position.
The Club again enjoyed a relatively succesful season in 2005-06 as it finished 9th but in 2006-07 as players left for clubs at a higher standard, and there was a failure to establish a Reserve Team appropriate to the level at which the Club was now playing, a certain amount of disillusionment set in and this led to the departure of Brett McNamara, one of the Joint Managers, at the end of the sesaon. As it became apparent that other players intended leaving the Club the other Joint Manager Tony Joynes resigned just before the start of the 2007-08 season.
Following on from this the Reserve Team was folded and its Manager, Rupert Thomas, was appointed Team Manager of the CMFL Premier Division Side.
By the end of the season, after an initial struggle, Rupert had built up a useful squad and there is sufficient confidence that with a few new signings the Club has again secured its playing future. A Reserve Team has again been entered into the CMFL in order to allow for the development of youngsters already on the books or who will come through shortly from the Club's junior teams.
