ABOUT THE CLUB

New Cottingham FC was formed in the summer of 2009. After much deliberation, it was finally set up and New Cottingham played in the Kettering Area Sunday League Division One in their first season. After just 11 points from their 20 league games, relegation to Division Two was confirmed on the final day of the season. The highlight of the league season was beating Enigma 3-2 with a late James Green goal just weeks after being humbled 4-0 by the same opposition. New Cottingham played in a total of 7 cup games in the three knockout tournaments. A narrow 2-1 defeat at the hands of Corby Forest that saw some of the worst refereeing in recent memory was arguably New Cottingham’s best performance of the season. However, the highlight in the cup competitions was a penalty shootout win against Leather Craftsman in the Thornton Cup after an incredible 6-6 draw. New Cottingham would go out of the competition once again with a narrow defeat, this time 3-2 in extra time against the top scorers in the league, Corby White Hart.

Going into the 2010/11 season the core of the New Cottingham FC squad will once again be made up of players who live in, originate or have another connection with the village of Cottingham. Interestingly enough in a twist of irony ‘New’ Cottingham FC will be the oldest Cottingham team for the 2010/11 season. Cottingham Youth FC have also been set up and will play in the Kettering Area Sunday League, meaning for the first time in history there will be a competitive Cottingham derby (assuming Cottingham Youth are put in Division Two). Although Cottingham Youth FC will play at Berryfield Road in Cottingham, New Cottingham will continue to play their home games at West Glebe Park in Corby for the 2010/11 season. Once facilities have been improved at Berryfield Road, it is likely that a ground sharing option could be considered for the 2011/12 season.
