Newport Civil Service were founded in 1963.
Initially they worked their way through the Newport and District League system. After achieving Gwent County League status they made impact at that level in the 1980s, winning Division 3 in 1987-88 and Division 2 the following season. Indeed, in Civil's first season in Division 1, 1989-90 they actually swept to 2nd in the League, and captured Gwent Challenge Cup for the first time.after coming 3rd in the 1990-91 they spent several years in mid-table,(though winning the Gwent Amateur Cup in 1995) and even ended in last position in the 1996-97 season, escaping relagation due to Chepstow towns promotion to the Welsh League. This escape must have come as a warning, for Civil got things together again in the 1997-98 season to finish 4th.
In the 1998-99 season Civil were on for the treble, until disaster struck with the loss of 9 points for unknowingly fielding a player suspended in Sunday Football. They then lost Gwent Amateur Cup Final to local rivals Newport Corries and at the end only had the Gwent Challenge Cup to show
for a season that promised so much with Civil winning with a 1-0 win over another Newport side Pill AFC.
In the the next couples of seasons we finsished mid-table.
Then in the 2001-02 season Civil Service struggled with players all year round which ended in relagation to the Gwent County Second Division which hurt and shocked the club. With then a new Manager in place they finished 4th in their first season in the Second Division then the 2003-04 and 2004-05 they finished 3rd nearly being promoted but the last couple of games let them down.
Then things Changed once again for Civil when in the 2005-06 Season Civil finished 2nd position with Monmouth Town finishing First with the 2 teams being promoted.
Once again Civil's managment team changing for the new season in the first Division also losing several players so Civil just hoping to finish half way but hoping to have a good Cup run they won the first Division only failing to be promoted to the Welsh league due to the Civil Service Sports club being taken over by Play football( Football complex) so that left Monmouth town who finished 2nd behind the Civil being promoted to the Welsh League.
Then came history in the 2007-08 season for Civil service, while heads down due to not being promoted the season before the entire tried their hardest.
Things didnt start to well losing to their local rivals Albion Rovers 2-0. after that thing just got better only losing 1 more game the whole season to Cwmffrwdoer Sports which Civil went on to retain the Gwent County 1st Division.
With alot of hard work put in with Players and Staff Civil applied again to be Promoted to Welsh league only to be rejected Twice by the Welsh League, with heads down and alot more hard work put in Civil applied one last time with hope to be accepted which they did which was a big relief to players and staff.
This is the First time in the Civil Service Football Club history that they will be playing in the Welsh League and will be hoping we will remain in their for years to come .
