This was Newquay Ladies Under 16-s first pre-season friendly away to Charlestown always a difficult side to beat proved to be an excellent workout.
The game started with both sides being rather cagey but after only five minutes Newquay made the break through to go into the lead 1-0. Newquay now began to dominate the midfield and create chances which lead to them increasing their lead to 2-0 on thirty minutes half time arrived with no further score. The second half started with a concerted effort from Charlestown putting Newquay under some pressure, now it was the turn of the Newquay defenders to show their worth keeping it tight at the back, the good fitness levels of all the Newquay players enabled them to reasert themselves and regain control of things with this the goals followed and they went into a 6-0 lead by the sixty fifth minute, Charlestown pulled a goal back on 70 minutes from the penalty spot to make the final score 6 - 1 to Newquay.
There were fine debuts from Ellie Giddens who scored five goals and Georgia Luscombe who was picked as player of the match, Indy Savage got a goal that was well merited for another good performance.
Coach Duncan Green was delighted with the teams performance and said that the girls team effort was exemplory, their passing and movement showed that the hard work put in showed that the pre-season training was paying off , he and the side were looking forward to the start of the season.
