Liskeard Ladies Under 13 Girls 0 - 2 Newquay Ladies Devils Under 13 Girls (East Cornwall Youth League)

Newquay Ladies devils Under 13 Girls made the tough trip to Lux Park this week to play a strong Liskeard Ladies side and returned with a hard-earned three points. Without number one keeper Lucy Stewart who watched from the sidelines through injury, the odds were stacked against the Newquay side right from the kick-off. The first half was very even and the game looked to be heading for the break goalless when striker Hannah Marshall popped up in the box and took advantage of the Liskeard keeper spilling the ball to stab the ball home for Newquays first goal. The second half started with Newquay pushing forward and enjoying good possession with excellant runs from Maddie Davison on the right and Tamsin Dillon firing in long throw ins which caused chaos in the Liskeard defence. Ten minutes into the second half and all the possession paid off when the Liskeard keeper could only parry a long range shot and once more Hannah Marshall was on hand to claim her second goal of the match, squeezing the ball in from a tight angle. Liskeard then began to enjoy their best period of the game and Newquays defensive duo of Frankie Fronc, and skipper Becky Pearce, were called upon to make several vital tackles and clearances. As the half progressed Liskeard began to push further forward and they manged to breach the Newquay defence twice only to be denied by stand-in keeper Tegan Ward firstly diving at the strikers feet to claim the ball and then tipping the ball over the bar from a long range shot. Shortly before the end Newquay nearly made it three when Betsy Dunlop took the ball on a strong run virtually the whole length of the pitch narowlly shooting wide. At the whistle both sets of players were applauded from the pitch by spectators who had appreciated the effort and skill shown by both teams and the Newquay side made a happy trip home following this confidence boosting win.
