Fun Football is a joint initiative between the FAW, the Welsh Football Trust and national team sponsor, Vauxhall, aimed at the development and growth of community football throughout Wales.

The accredited scheme is targeted at increasing participation in football for children of all abilities in a safe learning environment.

The Fun Football programmes includes the Vauxhall Soccer Camps which are daylong coaching sessions running through the school holidays and have been devised by the FAW and national team sponsor Vauxhall to support the Fun Football providers throughout Wales.

Coleman said; “I am delighted to be here at Play Football today to help launch the Vauxhall Fun Football programme.

“Whatever your level it is important that we give youngsters the opportunity to get out and play football but more importantly enjoy themselves and live a healthy lifestyle.

Vauxhall Head of Sponsorship, Chris Hornbuckle said; “We are very excited about playing our part in the Fun Football programme.

“From the beginning of our sponsorship we have been committed to supporting football from the grass roots through to the National senior team and it is vitally important for the future of the game in Wales that we support the young talent with such opportunities.”

The Fun Football charter mark programme was introduced to provide local authorities, clubs and private organisations with a benchmark scheme for the delivery of curricular and extracurricular activities within the boundaries of each local authority.

The term “fun football” is recognised by UEFA and is endorsed as a grass roots development initiative.

Ian Gwyn Hughes, Head of Public Affairs at the FAW, said: “The emphasis of the Fun Football programme really is about encouraging more and more youngsters to get involved and play football.

“The scheme offers them the opportunity to turn up and play and develop their skills in a creative safe coaching environment.

“It’s crucial that we encourage these youngsters and nurture their talent, as they are the future football stars of our nation.”
