It was derby day AgAiN at the ‘field of dreams’, with the mighty hosting Local rivals Mill Inn. There was drama even before kick off with DOF Allan Blacklaws taking his seat in the directors box to a chorus of boo’s from The Hill faithful. Mr. Blacklaws has come under much criticism in recent weeks with players and fans voicing their anger at financial problems within the club aswell as him publicly slating players with his match ratings. Not only that, but it is also rumored that Mr. Blacklaws refuses the players water at vigorous training sessions. The media have even gone as far as suggesting that Newtonhill AFC has become dictatorship like under the big mans rule.
Anyways, there was a very important 3 points to be played for and focus swiftly turned to the action on the pitch. Newtonhill welcomed back Farqhar in goals and gave D. Christie and I. Smith their first starts of the season. It was one way traffic throughout the first half with The Hill missing a host of great opportunities. Barraza was first when he failed to finish when put through one on one with the keeper. The rebound fell to Smith who saw his tame effort cleared off the line. Completely against the run of the play Mill Inn found themselves infront. Low and behold it was thanks to, soon to be ‘W****R of the Month’; A. Brooks when he finished marvelously from a long Mill In throw. Somehow it remained 1-0 to the visitors up until half time with The Hill missing chance after chance after chance after chance after chance after chance after chance after chance after chance after chance after chance after chance after chance after chance after chance after chance after chance after chance after chance after chance after chance after chance after chance after chance after chance after chance after chance after chance after chance. After chance. Keith hit a post, Campbell bottled a one on one, Keith scored but it wasn’t given, Campbell bottled another chance. And if things couldn’t get any worse for ‘The W****R of the Week’, the donkey then went on to miss a penalty. No disrespect to the big fellow, but it was perhaps the worst penalty the field of dreams has ever witnessed with the ball ending up on the railway line, 2 miles south of the stadium.
HT (0-1)
Into the second half and The Hill continued to dominate. There were cries of ‘There’s only one Shirley’, with the home support calling for super sub Blacklaws. Incredibly the fans did see a Steven take the field, but it wasn’t the sensational Shirley, it was Steven James Christie. However, SJC10 was the man to change Newtonhills fortunes and played a big part in the equalizer. SJC10 sent in a devilish cross that was cleared to the edge of the box where Milsom latched onto it and thundered a shot which cannoned off the post and into the back of the net. The Hill were desperate to gain the 3 points and would have comfortably had Barraza put his boots on the right feet. With just 10 minutes remaining however, Barraza silenced his critics when he finished coolly after D. Christie headed the ball into his path. SJC10 had chances to make the scoreline more emphatic and to also stake a claim for a starting position ahead of Barraza in the weeks to come, but was denied twice. So, another big 3 points for the Hill who remain unbeaten at the ‘field of dreams’. Next up is Halliburton away.
