At last, a well deserved victory for the 1st team in difficult conditions at Mile End although it seemed that lady luck had desserted us again when Phoenix scored from a cross that caught the wind in the opening 10 mins.
Enjoying his new role up top, Jason Davies scored a corker from distance, sending the ball off both posts to level.
And, at last, a slice of luck for Newtown, Pete Gould scoring a carbon copy of Phoenix' goal to give us the lead. Jason followed his opening effort with a smartly taken brace to register his 1st hat trick for the club and after good work from Sam Hood, Matt Gentille scored the 5th....and all this before half time!
The 2nd half was relatively dull in comparison, although after sub Ben Adams was crudely sythed down in the box, he stepped up to blast his penalty some distance wide...having moments earlier laughed out loud at a Norfolk Destroyers player do likewise on the next pitch!!
Minutes later, a 2nd penalty and a chance to make amends...or maybe not. The usually reliable Stu James saw his pen saved by the Phoenix 'keeper!
In summary, a much overdue win, only one goal shipped and up to 3rd bottom...more of the same please...
