Biography

Mr Northam Lions himself joined the club in its very first year of 1969. Phil was invited to the A.G.M of Northam Workings Men Club which was closing, he attended the meeting and came out as Secretary. At this meeting they had to agree a new name as there was already a club called Northam, we decided on Northam Lions as we had our meetings at the Golden Lion and the rest is history. Phil had not played before, in those days only one sub was allowed and the players used to take it in turns to be sub. He was one of the original players that registered for the first few seasons in the clubs history and so was involved in their first few success although he did not play in any finals. Phil has since made North Devon Football history becoming the first Secretary to win Administrator of the Year twice. This was inaugurated in season 1993 and Phil was rightly honored winner for the years 1996 and 2010.
