The club was created in 1993 in Toronto, Canada by few young North Stars players so they could compete with the other teams in Toronto like Iftin, Benadir...etc.

The first Northern Stars football team was established in Toronto, Canada in 1993. In 2002, Northern Stars UK Football team was established. Both teams amalgamate into one team when they take part in the most prestigious Somali Football competition in Toronto called Somali Week Football Competition. They have won the competition in 1996, 2001, 2003 and 2004. They reached the final in 1993 and 1998. Northern Stars UK players were part of the winning team of 2000 Sweden Summer Cup, the Eid Cup held in London in 2002, the Wembley Cup in 2002. Two times Crowned Champions of 18 May Cup. Twice winners of The Ramadan Cup 2005 and 2006 held in London. Northern Stars is one of the best Somali football teams in Europe and Canada. Northern Stars take part in the Somali Week Football Competition held in Canada every year. Northern Stars are the semi-finalists of Somali Week Cup 2007.
