Season 2008/09
30 Jul 2009

After missing out on promotion by just a point the year before and with 2 third place finishes in the preceding years, the 5s were confident of a strong promotion push.

However it seemed the league quality had increased whilst we had taken a step backwards. Squad irregularity took its toll, losing Dumpy was a big loss and not having a regular goalie never helps! In fact the 5s ended up using 13 different goalies in their 23 game season.

As with most 5s seasons we started slowly and notched up a number of defeats. After 2 months with only 6 points in the bag (wins against the eventual league winners and the team who finished bottom) relegation loomed large.

A spirited second half to the season ensured safety and a respectable 5th place finish.

It took until the final 2 games of the season before we won consecutive games!...however it does mean we are starting the new season on a run :-)

A transitional season with the exit of captain Goliath to be replaced with the Right Wing Energy Storm that is Neil Smith.

Season 2007/08
30 Jul 2009

Although the league name remained the same as last year 'Minor Division 3 North' the team had technically gone up a division due to last years reshuffle.

Undaunted by the superior opposition and a slow start to the season the 5th XI racked up a midseason run of 11 wins out of 13 games.

This season welcomed the dream team wingers of Tom 'Dumpy' Stephenson and Neil 'no nickname' Smith to the team. Neil's first game being the penalty win against Southgate Olympic.

The season also included an away game to Merton in the cup that was delayed 3 weeks in a row, and when it was eventually played Neil and Pedro got stuck on the South Circular which meant that Parks played 65 minutes of the game with 9players (and someone's mate...who wasn't very good). Only losing 5-4 seemed like a victory to the players who gave everything against a strong numerically advantaged Merton side.

Going into the final day the 5's needed 1 point for back to back promotions. However things did not go to plan with a number of players not available and those that did turn up playing their worst game of the season. 4-0 down at half time to a lively Winchmore team and the writing was on the wall. Well taken goals from Quinny and Seyon in the second half lead to a mini revival but the game finished 5-2 to Winchmore.

A season that will be remembered for its sour end. Enjoyable up until then though.

Season 2006/07
30 Jul 2009

With Ed 'Goliath' Lennard promoted to 5th Team skipper from the 6th XI no one was expecting anything more than a respectable mid table finish.

The final finish of 3rd came as a shock to everyone bar the players. The team were disappointed to finish outside the promotion places; however the SAL restructuring resulted in the 5s gaining promotion as 'best of the rest'.

Great reward for a great first year.
