Formed in 1977 and following a season of friendly matches, Orton Vale joined the Wolverhampton Sunday League’s Division Nine in September, 1978. Gradual Promotions saw the team reach the Premier Division in 1992, after adding the Division Six title in 1985 and Division Three title in 1989 finishing unbeaten in this season and the following season when they were Division Two Runners-up. They reached the Wolverhampton Charity Cup Final in 1992 losing to Marston Sports at Bilston Town FC.
A Saturday side was added in 1990 which played in the Wolverhampton Amateur League and won the AH Oakley cup in 1992. This side were founder members of the Wolverhampton Combination League in 1996 and still currently play in this league.
A Youth team was formed in 1998 at Under 15s level in the Bilston Partnership Youth League but the Sunday side folded in December 1999 dropping out of Division One due to a lack of quality players.
After their last season at under 17’s in 2001, the Youth side plus a few older players gained re-entry to the Wolverhampton Sunday League’s Division Seven. Promotion was achieved in the first two seasons after third and fourth place finishes respectively. The team then went on to win the Division’s Five and Three titles before playing for several seasons in Division One with second and third place finishes. After being refused promotion to the Premier Division due to the home ground not meeting the required standard the team moved to the Kidderminster League Division One for the 2008-2009 season leaving the second team which was formed in 2005 playing in the Wolverhampton Sunday League Division 3. The League’s SF Skedgel Cup was won in 2004 and the team went onto win the Birmingham Sunday Junior Cup in May 2006 having previously lost in the final.
2008-09 also saw the entry of an Orton Vale team entering the Beacon League for the first time with again a mixture of youth and experience which is hoped will enable the Club to continue to go from strength to strength in the future.
