Parkway F.C
The birth of Parkway F.C
At the start of season 2001-02, The Ballot Box (Parkway FC's Origianl name) were due to go through some changes largely thanks to Roland Nowak (ex team PR. guru and Webmaster), securng new sponsorship deals. The Ballot Box knew a new name was needed, something neutral with no obvious ties to a company or pub to enable a continuous name regardless of sponsor. The players had a vote and a new name was decided upon. Parkway Football Club was the favourite choice, due in part to the grounds' proximity to The Parkway, a main route through West London which Links the M4 to the M40.
Our main sponsors and kit provider were Motorcycle Action of Acton. The company’s corporate colours become the teams new kit colours, so Parkway F.C. lined up looking like the Czech Republic, with Red shirts, Blue Shorts and Red Socks, all with White Trim.
The new kit and sponsors didn’t lift the team though and a 3rd from bottom finish saw us just escape relegation. We also secured the services of Andrew Johnson, ex secretary of the Pelican F.C. as our new Treasurer and events organiser.
Season 2002-03 Saw a more settled squad, and a new sponsorship arranged by team member Roland Nowak, this time his own company Nova Consulting provided us with 2 new kits. Our events man Andy Johnson organised a team fund raiser with 7 members of the squad taking part in the London to Brighton Bike ride (This has become a regular event in the Parkway calendar). Andy also organised our first ever pre-season tour- (details of our tours can be found elsewhere within these pages), taking the squad to get a few footballing lessons in The Netherlands. The season ended with Parkway in a mid-table position.
Season 2003-04 Began with a pre-season tour of the Czech Republic and another rebuilding of the squad. The season saw a very strong division 4 and despite accumulation 16 points (enough for a mid table finish usually) Parkway finished in their worst position of 2nd from bottom. Due to a reshuffle of teams within the league and some benevolence from then league secretary Chris Hartley we were to keep our Division 4 status.
Season 2004-2005 started brightly, with another successful tour of The Netherlands completed we secured a few new players and they looked to be what we needed to improve the team. However the season took a turn for the worst with an accumulation of very bad injuries to our new and key players which left us scratching around to put out make shift teams on too many occasion. This was to prove our downfall and with only 10 points accrued and a 2nd from bottom finish Division 5 football looked likely next season.
Season 2005-2006 was an average season which led to a mid table finish.
Season 2006-2007 with a few new additions hopefully we can improve and force a challenge for the league.
