On a scorching day the Lions once again did themselves proud getting into the Final and loosing to a rather dubious penalty. The Lions struggled in the early group matches drawing their first game and loosing the second game. They then pulled themselves together and won the last three group games to go through to the quarter-final on goal difference. They then beat a good Unicorn team in the quarters and winning the semi in extra time.

The Beginning
15 Jul 2007

The foundation of the team began back in 2006 when they came together as left overs from Atherton Town Tigers. Dave Seddon stepped forward and volunteered to run this new tem and call the Atherton Town Lions. The soon moulded together as each of the lads found their position in the team. In their first season the set off in steady fashion drawing one, winning one and loosing one in their first three games. Then all the cogs started to work in harmony and the Lions went on to a 6 month unbeaten run which culminated in a third spot in Divison D of the U8's and an appearance at the Reebok Stadium in the Mini League Final.
Then followed an acrimonious split from Atherton Town which saw the Lions cross Leigh Road to join Pennington Football Club.
