Last game of the season ended in a draw at French School Meadows
Penn & Tylers Green FC 2 – Letcombe 2
This had end of season game written all over it. The sharpness of last week’s game was never quite there. Letcombe played well and looked like they wanted it more. They were sharper in their tackles and always got to any lose ball first. This did not mean that we did not have any chances but there were only a few of them.
On a windy but sunny afternoon (will they ever get the forecast right?) is was not easy for either team to get the ball down and play some passing football. As I said at the beginning, this was a typical end of season game. No surprise then, that at half time is was all square with no goals in the match.
The second half at least had goals in it. The first one came for Penn & Tylers Green FC when Liam Ratcliffe, who came on for Sam Appleby in the second half, cut inside and let fly from the edge of the box. This was a very good gaol.
The equaliser came shortly after that. A looping header and assisted by the strong wind the ball somehow found a way over John Harding’s outstretched hands into the back of the net. Shortly after that we were two one down when a cross was redirected by the wind again and the ball ended up in the top right corner. This was a fluke but to be fair Letcombe did deserve the lead at this stage of the game.
Good to see two more youngsters coming through with Antony Quigley coming on and Curtis Stone making his debut for the First Team. With Jago Seymour having another fine game there are some good prospects for next season. As stated in previous match reports one thing has been good this season: The boys never give up and we got the deserved equaliser when Jamie West smashed the ball into the net after the referee played a good advantage for a handball in the box by a Letcombe defender.
It was deserved because just before that Dan Arnett hit the bar with a powerful header from close range.
It was good not to lose the last game of the season and this season was a clear improvement from last season.
