Report

A tired, battered and bruised Penrith Rangers side took on league champions Ambleside at Frenchfield on Tuesday night, Rangers started well enough and had two early chances to take the lead when Johnny French first of all just failed to find a team mate with a cross and then moments later his shot was wide and high.

Ambleside soon imposed themselves on the game and they took the lead after 12 minutes when a poor clearance by goalkeeper Forrester fell straight to David Ramsey who fired into an empty net from 20 yards, both sides were playing some decent football without creating many chances however Ambleside doubled their lead in identical fashion when the Rangers keeper scuffed his clearance to Chris Clough who had the easy task of finishing from the edge of the box.

Rangers had to take the incentive to attack and were unlucky when youngster Alan Roberts beat Ambleside keeper Harvey Upton to the ball but he was unfortunate to see ball roll inches past the post, the same player then done well dispossessing a defender and cutting in on the right but his shot was just over the bar.

Right on the stroke of half time Ambleside were awarded a direct free kick from 25 yards, Cooper took the shot and his thunderous shot flew into the top corner giving Forrester no chance and making it 3-0 to the visitors.

Rangers made changes at half time in an attempt to try and get back into the game but they could only muster a few half chances as the game wore on, the visitors sealed the points after 65 minutes when Jamie Parkinson turned in the box and struck home from close range to give Ambleside a comfortable victory.
