After a few weeks off due to poor weather giving cancelled fixtures the Penydarren Under 16s resumed their season this weekend. They played hosts to Caerphilly Castle at The Bont. The game started with a flurry and the Pen girls found themselves 1 - 0 up with a goal scored by ex Caerphilly player Jasmin Chant who finished in style after a solo run. The Penydarren midfield took control of the game and produced attack after attack with midfielder Maria Martins slotting home a second for the pen girls. Some good interplay saw Jasmin Chant add to her tally to score her second of the day. Martins added a fourth with a great strike into the top corner leaving the Caerphilly keeper stranded. This saw the Pen girls leading 4 - 0 at the interval. With Amy Lester looking back to her best in the midfield and Beth Jenkins holding strong in defence the Caerphilly girls struggled to assert any pressure. Paige Randall seems to have found a bit of form and neds this effort every week. Megan had little to do in goals but as on hand when needed. Then with a mistake in the Pen defence after a poor clearance they conceded to a well struck goal. This saw the Pen girls bounce back with several attacks being thwarted by a good display from the Caerphilly keeper. Maria Martins was in fine form as she added yet another 3 goals to her tally to make it 5 on the day. Caerphilly replied with one more making it a good day for the Penydarren girls tasting a 7 - 2 victory. This was a much improved performance by the Pen girls who must continue to play with this effort in future weeks. Well done girls.
