The Unde 14s girls hosted Thornhill A.F.C at the Bont in a very entertaining game. Penydarren went into this game hoping for a slice of luck that all their hard work deserved,with regular goalkeeper Rebecca Payne missing, it fell for Jasmin Chant to stand in and she produced some fine saves in the first half to keep
the game close. Thornhill scored the first goal in a fast and open encounter but were soon pegged back when Abbie Williams scored after a mistake by the Thornhill keeper when put under pressure by Hannah Davies. Penydarren then took the lead when Maria Martins cut in from the left to score with a fine shot, but with half time closing in all Penydarren-s hard work was undone as Thornhill scored 2 more to take 2-3 lead at the break. A change of goalkeeper at halftime for Penydarren with Morgan Ellis coming in from right back to swap with Jasmin Chant did nothing to change Penydarren-s luck as chances were missed on numerous occasions as Penydarren searched for an equaliser,with Stacy Scott coming closest with a rasping shot from the edge of the area that flew just wide, as the game went on Thornhill-s fitness told as they managed to brake Penydarren-s defences on 4 more occasions in the closing stages. Although the final score was 2-7 it doesn-t reflect on how the girls played and especially the back 4 led by Shannon Roper who was outstanding throughout.
