Summer of 2006 Penzance Ladies FC held an open day for girls age from 8-16. 50 girls turned up for a day of fun. Each girl received a goody bag, T shirt and a Certificate of attendance. Prizes and awards were given out to players in different Categories.
The first year was a learning period, with coaching and playing friendlies at U10 and U12 ages. Both squads entered the Charlestown tournament where the U12's were Runners Up, the first time the girls had won a game. At the end of the season all the players recieved a trophy.
Season 2007-08 The Junior Magies entered the Kernow Youth League girls section in the U12 Division. In their first season they won the League and the U12 Cup. At the end of the season they won the MacDonalds Tournament and Runners up again at the Charlestown Tournament. The U10's won their section at the tournament.
The 2008-2009 season brought mixed fortunes. Whilst the U12 team held their own in their league, the U14 team, which comprised the previous years U12 players, found the going tough. Whilst other teams had a mixtre of he previous years U12 team and older U14 players, our team comprised only players from the younger age group. Whilst performances were often good, the results didn't go our way. Additionally, new FA rules meant that our centre of excellence players could no longer play for the club. Despite the disappointments, the girls battled well and didn't let their heads drop. In the cup, he girls battled hard but eventually lost the semi-final to the eventual winners, Newquay.
Season 2009 -2010 saw us again enter teams at U12 & U14. The U12's did remarkably well, winning their league with games to spare and making the final of the cup competition, eventually losing by one goal despite having only 5 available players.
The under 14's retuned to winning ways, eventually finishing 3rd in their league. Good results against the top teams in the league were unfortunately cancelled out by draws against lesser opposition. In the league cup, they again reached the semi-finals, losing to their Nemesis, Truro City despite a hugely spirited comeback from 3-0 down and a string of chances, with Truro going on to claim the cup.
Revenge over Truro was gained in the Tesco County cup competition, the girls first foray into 11 a side competitive football. Penzance opened their cup competition with an emphatic 8-0 thrashing of Charlestown before a tense 2-1 win over Trevenson in the semi-final. The girls produced an outstanding performance in the final , eventually beating overwhelming favourites Truro, 4-2.
The 2010-2011 season has brought mixed results for the two squads. The under 14 team has found the going particularly hard and have struggled to make an impact. However they have played with spirit and their performance have improved throughout the year despite having a very limited number of players.
The U15 squad on the other hand has gone from strength to strength and have really gelled as a team, pushing league winners Truro City all the way and reaching their first cup final in 4 years.
The end of the season brings the end of an era with the U15 players, some of whom have been with the club since it's formation, moving from mini football to the 11 a side game where they will be hopeful of continuing their impressive form and becoming a force to be reckoned with in the full sized game
