Report

The Eagles faced Croydon Athletic on a blustery day at Oakwood School. With the Eagles down to the bare 11, of which 3 were walking wounded and Jake and Matt filled in at the back, it was always going to be a tough game. The boys spent most of the first half on the defensive against the strong and fast Croydon forwards and, although the Eagles had the occassional chances on the break, it was only some great team work defending at the back that kept the score 0-0 at half time.

The second half was more of the same with the Eagles under continued pressure but with only 15 minutes left on the clock it was Perrywood, somewhat against the run of play, who scored first when a neatly taken corner from Michael found Jake who headed the ball into the net to give Perrywood a 1-0 lead. Croydon renewed their efforts at the other end and one fantastic save from Jack F kept Perrywood in the lead, but as the boys started to tire, Croydon found their aim and 3 times in quick succession found the net to give them a 3-1 lead. Perrywood almost grabbed one back when Matt Borth's shot was cleared off the goal line by one of the defenders, but with no further goals 3-1 remained the final score. Croydon probably deserved the win, but the boys played well, kept their heads up and couldn't have worked harder.
