History

In the beginning...
09 Jan 2008

The Phoenix Red Rockets started life in 2006 although they were originally known simply as Barrow SSO. The team was initially formed to compete in the Hassra North West 5 a side competition and consisted of just 6 squad members. Of that initial team, only four members are still with the Rockets. Founding member Danny Turner suffered a serious knee injury and had to retire from competitive action. He went on to manage the Red Rockets in their 2007 campaign but left by mutual consent after a disappointing string of results. Andrew Sneesby also had to retire on medical grounds. 2007 saw the Rockets again compete in Wigan, this time under their present name of Phoenix Red Rockets. The name was chosen after email vote and was clear favorite, winning by 3 votes to one. With a bolstered squad, optimism was high that the team could bring home the spoils from Wigan, but the team froze on the night and were on the end of some bad refereeing decisions. They ended tournament without a victory and with manager Danny Turner seething. He quit the club not long after although may return to play if he gets the all clear after knee surgery. 2008 see Kris Houghton take over the reigns as manager and the Phoenix red Rockets competing in the Barrow Floodlit 7 a side league.
