Honorary Secretary’s Welcome |
Welcome to Phoenix Royals FC. The club was established in May 2006 in order to offer football coaching and league competition to any club member regardless of age, sex, race and more importantly ability.
This is a new club formed by people who have been involved in youth football for many years. I have a great deal of personal experience in football administration – I have been both a Team Liaison Officer and a Club Secretary elsewhere and have worked continuously for the last fifteen seasons. My services to football have been recognised by two leagues, I have received the “Secretary of the year” award by both. The pinnacle of my achievements was however when I won the national F.A. award, being judged against club officials from all across the country. My husband Peter - a referee of many years standing - has stepped in as club chairman and he will also be dealing with disciplinary and child protection matters. He has spoken on behalf of various players and teams at both league and Surrey County hearings over the years, usually securing just verdicts for those he has represented.
We welcome the two founding teams, both playing in the U/13’s age group in our first season. Dave & Tracy Clune who run the Epsom & Ewell side and Eammon & Emma McKenna who run the West Surrey Youth League side have joined Peter and myself on the committee (Tracy is the club treasurer). They are running teams that were established elsewhere and I’m delighted to report that the overwhelming majority of their players from last season have remained loyal to them and have joined us. All of us have worked together in the past and I’m looking forward to this continuing for many years to come. I also fully acknowledge the help given by others – too many to name here – who tirelessly work for the benefit of the players, the club is and will remain all the better for your efforts.
On the playing side, our club is determined to maintain high standards of player development and our coaching staff are committed to ensuring not only the development of the players but also the enjoyment of being part of the football club and the team. We will also be looking to grow as a club and welcome new teams in the future. I look forward to hearing from those who share our values as to how the game should be played. Also, we are always seeking new volunteers to aide the teams both on and off the field. Should you feel able to assist please contact any club official.
I urge all members and their families to read this handbook and understand the codes of conduct and club policies adopted by Phoenix Royals F.C. Our aim is to be a family orientated club known for its good behaviour and respect towards each other, opposing teams, match officials and indeed, anyone who comes to our games to see us play.
All that remains for me to say is that I hope our coming season is successful. If you have any concerns or comments regarding the club please feel free to contact me and finally, ENJOY YOUR FOOTBALL.
Anne Burnell
Hon Sec Phoenix Royals F.C.
