Season Summary 2006/2007 |
SEASON SUMMARY
**************************************
With the season coming to an end, Pilks had to settle for the runners up spot to the champions ‘Old Xaverians’, not a bad achievement for manager Nick Robinson who, in his first season with the club has gained promotion.
Pilks were unlucky not to win the league and following an unbeaten run up to March, it was the game against Xavs that sent Pilks season into decline. Pilks couldn’t prevent Old Xaverians walking away from Ruskin with all three points, leaving Pilks a little battered and bruised.
From then on Pilks never really recovered and a week later came out second best to the impressive Fleetcar in the Northern Cup.
The bad run continued through to April were Pilks picked up point’s midweek, but then threw points away at the weekends, games in particular were Gerard and Sidac.
With the squad now lacking confidence and looking a little fatigued, the league was pretty much settled by the end of April, when Pilks travelled to Woolton to face second place Old Xaverians who walked away worthy 5-2 winners, to take league matters into their own hands.
On a positive note, Pilkington FC returned to the combination following a season out and successfully gained promotion into the Premier Division. Also reaching the Semi Final of the hospital cup after previously beating two prem sides in their travels.
Next season will see us battling it out in the Prem with the big boys.

Season 2006/2007 |
Pilkington “A” FC return to the Combination after a year off and are under the new management of Nick Robinson and Jimmy Woodyear.
Nick is player-manager and has been part of the club for a number of years. Although this is his first season as manager, he is hoping that with the experience of his assistant Jimmy that they will make a good fight for promotion this season.
It’s been a long time since the third team has won anything and with the team having a season out last year, it was going to have to be a complete rebuild. Nicks first job was to attract the quality required to compete for honours this season. Pre-season training started and it was always going to be a difficult task to reduce the 30 players down to a squad of 16.
Once Nick had his final squad, the team moved onto the pre-season friendlies. These friendlies helped the new team to bond and enter the season ahead with confidence.
