CLUB HISTORY
History of Pill A.F.C 1982-2009 (00/00/00)

Pill A.F.C was formed in 1982 with two senior sides. Although most of the players played for the Y.M.C.A on Saturdays, it was their association with the Mariners F.C and latterly Pill Sporting F.C - who played on a Sunday- from which Pill A.F.C was formed.

We played in the Premier and 1st Division of the Npt & Dist Saturday League.Founder Members were : Alex Beattie, Steven Murrey, Leo Powell, Mark Jenkins, John Payne, Ray Pulis, Andrew Cueto, John Crowley, Ian Archer, John Challingsworth , Steven Rowberry, Alan Williams, Peter Hale , Tony Cueto, and Richie Willis.

We won the League and Cup double in our 1st season. Our ambition was to achieve Gwent County status .It took us five years to achieve that, gaining promotion to the 3rd division of the Gwent County League in 1987, winning that league at the 1st attempt. The following season we won the 2nd Division.
It then took us till 1996 to win the 1st division
We have won more than 34 League and Cup trophies and have added a 3rd senior side.

Over the years we have run from the Pill Sporting Club, the Tredegar Arms, the Italo Welsh Club and in 1991 we were invited to run from the Pill Harriers Club where we have been since.

In 1992 we started a Youth Development Scheme in Pill and started an Under 10 and 12 side.Over the subsequent years the youth sides have won most of the League and Cups possible including the Gwent County Youth U-18 championship in 1997-98.
A number of the youth players have progressed to higher football including Welsh International James Collins , who has played for Cardiff City and West Ham Utd.
Darren Jones played at Bristol City and Michael Flynn has played for Wigan and Huddersfield.

In 1993 we built our own dressing rooms at a cost of £40,000 next to the Pill Harriers Rugby Club. This was made possible because of an extremely hard-working committee and a special mention should go to John Payne, our Club President .Without this man Pill AFC would not exist today .

The 2003/04 season seen us drop out of the Gwent County League .A lot of the senior players who got us into this league were coming to the end of their playing days so we decided to start again with the many youth players that were coming through.
This strategy seems to have worked because this season(2009) Pill AFC have once again gained promotion to the Gwent County League.
