Having tasted Gwent County football for the first time in the club's history, Ponty came through a challenging season to maintain their status for next season.
With Manager Matthew Didcott continuing at the helm for his sixth season and the early appointment of Leigh Rowland as his assistant, the players shared the excitement and enthusiasm of the club. However, despite a strong pre-season and an 8-3 thrashing of bitter rivals Trevethin on the opening day, Ponty had to endure some testing times during the season when they first lost the services of Leigh Rowland to family commitments, then goalkeeping captain Justin Silver for 3 months with a serious leg injury and finally the disappointing departure of the new faces who fled back to their roots at the turn of the new year. Nonetheless, Ponty re-grouped and stuck together and managed to survive their first season by winning the 6-pointers against the teams around them at the wrong end of the table and earned a respectable 0-0 draw at League Champions ‘Tredegar Athletic’ against all odds.
Having consolidated their Gwent County status, Ponty must now take this valuable experience, learn from it and build for the future of the club.
