Portsmouth brought the curtain down on their most successful season with a 4-1 win at Queens Park Rangers.
Pompey secured the Women’s Premier League Southern Division title and promotion to the National Division in their previous match, a 2-1 win over Plymouth last month and were presented with the trophy at the match in London.
QPR welcomed the champions with a guard of honour as the Blues ran onto the pitch prior to kick-off.
The celebrations continued when the Blues took the lead on 15 minutes when Leeta RUTHERFORD rose highest in the box to powerfully head home Lucy Quinn’s in-swinging corner.
They were forced to wait until the second half for their second, but their patience paid off when Quinn found Gemma HILLIER.
The Pompey captain lobbed the ball over the advancing QPR keeper on 67 minutes to double their lead.
Laura HERON added a third from the penalty spot after Shelly Cox was tripped in the box. It was the defender’s first goal for Pompey, coming in her final game.
Charley WILSON completed the scoring on 82 minutes when she met Cox’s pass and slotted it home at close range.
In the dying minutes of the match, the hosts grabbed a consolation goal but it wouldn’t prevent Pompey’s party.
