UCL Division One

Rushden & Higham United  1    Potton United  2

Saturday, 05 May 2012

Potton's depleted side signed off for the season with an impressive win at Hayden Road.

Mark Weekley had the ball in the net for the home side early on but was flagged offside.

Shaun Faulkner's well struck effort was just wide for the Royals while at the other end Tyler Merries was wide from a Darren Farrar delivery.

Potton took a 21st minute lead with a solo effort by Sam Bonham who intercepted a loose ball  and cut inside beating a defender before firing low into the corner.

Nick Cooper's curling cross shot from out on the right doubled the visiting advantage after 24 minutes.

Faulkner and Cooper both went close to extending the lead but just before the break Dan Walker's goalline clearance denied Weekley a Lankies reply,

With conditions in their favour Rushden & Higham had much the better of the second period.

Jory Mann almost reduced the arrears immediately on resumption after Stuart Goosey and Weekley created the opening, and then Mann's free kick was tipped over by Aaron Loney.

Ryan Kalla/s 55th minute header from a corner put the home side back in the contest.

Mann was thwarted twice more by Loney before setting up Farrar to shoot just wide in stoppage time.
