Ragged School 3rd Team Match Report

SATURDAY 3rd SEPTEMBER. CWM ALBION 1 v RAGGED SCHOOL 10 [7 Sep @ 8:44am]

Ragged school 3rd team started off they’re 1st season with a brilliant display of football and a well deserved 10-1 victory over a well spirited Cwm Albion team. In all fairness to Cwm Albion they gave everything they had for 90 minutes. Ragged with a team of mostly last years youth, looked very comfortable in the senior league. Tom Rand opened the scoring after 15 minutes, then adding to the score sheet were goals from, Daniel Martin, Luke Stone, Mathew Davies, Damian Williams, Liam Stone and Kieren Jones, before Cwm Albion broke through with a late consolation. Cwm Albion did test the young Ragged keeper Adam Meriman on a number of occasions from distance, but Meriman looked very comfortable. Mathew Davies struck up a great partnership with Daniel Martin in midfield. But the player that stood out in this game was the left back Kieren Jones , absolutely outstanding.

Saturday 10th September. Ragged School 1 v Cwm Social 1 [11 Sep @ 6:58pm]

Going into the second game of the season with a number of changes from the very impressive victory over Cwm Albion last week, was always going to be a bit daunting. But it didn’t take the lads long before they looked like they’d been playing together for years. The weather stopped both sides playing football to the best of their ability, but having the strong wind against us first half, Ragged defended well, stopping the young, enthusiastic Cwm Social side striking from range.

Although they did test the stand-in veteran keeper, Damian Williams a few times, his experience showed he could still do an excellent job between the sticks.

Playing late into the second half, and the weather getting worse, the pitch started getting heavier, that’s when Cwn Social was awarded a penalty, after the ball apparently struck Kieren Jones on the hand. Going one behind and now chasing the game with ten minutes remaining, Ragged showed exactly what they were capable of. The stand-in centre half and skipper, Mathew Davies pushed on where he was most comfortable, attacking the midfield and testing the keeper when he could.

The two young men upfront, Tom Rand and Steve Rodgers played some excellent football throughout the game, but struggled to get many chances on goal.

With three minutes remaining, Tom Rand picked the ball up very wide on the left and curled it into the bottom of the Cwm Social goal.

1-1 and a very well deserved point for both clubs

Saturday 24th September. Ragged School 4 v Plough Colts 0 [28 Sep @ 7:37pm]

With the season well and truly underway, Ragged face a well organised unbeaten Plough. Winning four out of four and currently sitting top of the table, Plough really were the team to beat.

Mynydd Newydd lived up to its reputation with heavy rain and strong winds, but that wasn’t enough to stop these two sides from competing very hard for the top spot.

Both keepers played big parts in this game, being tested from distance and from close range. It was after fifteen minutes that the deadlock was broken, with a fierce strike form Damian Williams. Shortly after, some great teamwork between Daniel Martin, Luke Stone and Dean Ace, Daniel Martin fancied testing the keeper from outside the area and it paid off. Ragged were awarded a penalty in the second half but the Plough keeper did well to deny Craig Davies’ first penalty of the season.

Goals from Liam Stone and Dean Ace followed late into the second half,

Waunarlwydd 0 v Ragged School 5

Waunarlwydd were the hosts to Ragged School down the Elba. Being the first time these two teams have met, the game was very quick from the start. Trying to beat the Waunarlwydd defence roved very tricky, until Dean Ace played Luke Stone through to put Ragged infront. From then Ragged pushed on as much as they could, the mid field linked up well with the wingers, who drove the ball hard and low at every opportunity across the Waunarlwydd goal. The opposing team did play some excellent football, testing the keeper Damian Williams, but he looked very comfortable. Luke Stone had his second goal late into the second half, when a cross deflected off the Wauarlwydd defence. Tom Rand got on the score sheet in the second half, followed by two of the subs, Steve Rodgers and Sam Keefe. Ragged won the game with a very respectable 5-0 full time score

Saturday 8th October Ragged School 7 v Waunarlwydd 1 [16 Oct @ 5:41pm]

After playing Waunarlwydd last week, Ragged didn’t take the score line for granted. Ragged had a few changes from the previous game, but Waunarlwydd attacked as soon as the game got underway, but the experienced defender Paul Hopkins kept his defenders as tight as possible. From then Ragged kept on top of their game. After ten minutes Liam Stone picked the ball up from outside the area and fired from range, leaving the keeper with no chance. Luke Stone got on the score sheet twice before the second half. Waunarlwydd did try to press the Ragged defence in the second half, but when Luke Stone completed his hat-trick it seemed that they couldn’t wait for the game to end. Further goals came from Tom Rand, Dean Ace and a tremendous solo effort form the left-back Kieran Jones followed. Waunarlwydd did get a late consolation goal however, pushing everyone into the Ragged area, forcing the Ragged keeper to turn the ball into his own net from a corner. Ragged won the game 7-1.
