Histon had the advantage of a strong wind and the slope in their favour during the first half, they quickly took advantage of the conditions by storming down the wing and supplying a perfect cross for their unmarked forward to finish at the back post to take an early lead. Priory regained their composure and began to control the match for the rest of the half and during this time they were awarded a corner which Conor Inskip floated into the penalty area, Histon only managed to half clear the ball, it dropped perfectly for James Thomas to hit on the volley and his shot rocketed into the roof of the net for the equaliser.
The second half saw Priory really take control and the game was virtually played entirely in the Histon half of the pitch but try as they might Priory couldn’t get the goal their play deserved, the over worked Histon goal keeper pulled off a string excellent saves, the Histon cross bar was also struck twice, but at the other end Priory were indebted to a brilliant goal saving tackle from James Thomas on the only occasion Histon attacked with any menace during the second half.
