| Prissick Rovers U15 | 3 |
On a windy day, Prissick travelled to Aycliffe for their first league game of the year. Prissick had a bright start with a lot of play taking place on the left through Mitch Sizer and Connor Callaghan causing trouble for the Aycliffe defence. Callaghan opened the scoring on 5 mins with a well taken goal, beating three Aycliffe players to cooly slot past the advancing keeper. However Prissick failed to capitalise on their early lead and allowed Aycliffe to constantly win 50-50 tackles and create their own chances. A ball over the top of the PRissick defence caused panic with Bailey Ramrekha charging out of his box only to be beaten by an Aycliffe player to round him and strike into an empty net. This gave Aycliffe confidence and Prissick constantly failed to deal with the ball over the top being too slow to track back, another Aycliffe attack saw Bailey make a fine first save only for Matthew Wood unluckily strike the ball at an Aycliffe player and the rebound crossed the line despite Bailey making another attempt to keep it out. 2-1 to Aycliffe and some serious questions were being asked of the Prissick players who it has to be said thought they would win the game just by turning up!
HT- 2-1
The second half saw Prissick finally wake up and put in some great strong tackles to win the ball in midfield through Kyle Holmes in particular, Woody also started putting tackles in and Aycliffe realised they were in for a game. Despite some strange decisions from the ref, Prissick actually benefitted from a rare decision in their favour when the ref awarded a free kick to Prissick on the edge of the Aycliffe box. Mitch took a great free kick which smacked the bar and rebounded to Woody who hit a low shot under the keepers legs. 2-2 and finally Prissick had woken up! With about 15 mins remaining Prissick won a penalty through Danny Horrigan and depspite scoring the ref made Danny take it again for encroachment, Danny switched sides and Prissick were 3-2 up. The last ten minutes were best forgotten by some strange decisions which I wont go into online, but overall an entertaining match which kept Prissicks momentum going. There are some tough games ahead and the lads need to be aware they simply cannot just turn up and expect to beat teams further down the league, the lads have to put a shift in first before their football takes over and the great stuff they are capable of playing can come to the fore. Hopefully this game will prove to be a wake up call for the remaining games of the season, but a good hard fought win in a game that could have gone against them, well done lads.
