Punnetts Town have existed as a club since at least the 1950's although to be honest we don't have much information on the club pre 1990's!!
The 1st team have generally held their own in the Premier Division of the East Sussex League & have infact won the division on a couple of occassions although promotion to County status was always denied because of the famous sloping pitch & airraid shelter away changing room!! Thanks to much hard work from the likes of Mus, Curly, Sal & Jude a grant was obtained from the football trust in the mid 90's to level the pitch and put in undersoil drainage giving us one of the best pitches in the league. Unfortunately the team have never quite hit the same heady heights since infact we were even relegated to division 1 after Baldie Dave left to take over Hastings Utd. However 2 seasons ago Granny rode in on his big white van(??) & guided the boys to the title in his 1st season, an impressive achievement considering the teams average age was approx 22!! Last season saw the boys consolidate their position in the top division with a fifth place finish and a double over local neighbours Heathfield Hotspurs. The plans for changing room refurbishment have been temporarily suspended until plans for a new village community centre are either approved or denied but ulimately the plan is to be in a position both on & off the pitch to apply for county status within the next few years.
The Club decided due to demand to add a 2nd team in the early 90's. Entering at division 9 originally the club have risen to the heady heights of division 4 due to a couple of promotions and some league restructuring!! Unfortunately it looks like the boys may have been relegated to division 5 for the 08/09 campaign but with an injection of some new young blood there is optimism within the club that the future is bright..
