A great away match in what can only be described as 'Antarctic' conditions at Lepton!!! The girls started strongly with Louise quick off the mark to score 0-1 within minutes & with a few position changes, Elle playing in mid-field had a couple of good shots at goal. The team showed some great skill in passing & it wasn't long before Louise scored again 0-2. Lepton kept the pressure on though & quickly attacked at the other end, with a scramble in the goal mouth managing to find the back of the net 1-2. Leah had a great match in mid-field, nearly scoring a couple of times & Abi, not feeling too great at all, had 2 or 3 great shots at goal before leaving the field. Elle hit the post a couple of times before Louise scored again, 1-3 & then, a super run & cross from Niamh set up Louise for her 4th goal 1-4. Immediately from the kick-off Louise won the ball back & a great shot secured a 1-5 lead. Lepton didn't falter though & after a great run & attacking play, they took a good shot & scored 2-5. QCFC continued reading the game well as a team & Louise struck it well 2-6 at half-time.
Second half, the conditions were even worse - the girls struggling to keep warm & dry!! Scarlett, Kiera, Grace & Millie all had shots at goal - credit due to the Lepton goal keeper who kept the score as low as possible for her team & rightly so winning Player of the Match from the Queensbury girls. Some of the tactical plays were fantastic & Scarlett took a shot from near her own half, only just missing. Ellie, although playing strong in defence for most of the match with Megan, got herself up front & crossed the ball right across the goal mouth & across the line 2-7. Louise kept applying the pressure & again from a good pass in 2-8. Attack from Lepton & a great shot in that took a slight deflection tricking Bethan who'd taken some great kicks & good saves 3-8 but it was Louise who was to have the last word, scoring an amazing last goal of the match, straight in from a corner kick!! Several players to choose from for QCFC Player of the Match but it was a first for Elle to come away with the reward.
The team played really well in conditions that were terrible, even to just watch. The commitment & strength across the team continues to grow. Really good win, keeping close to the top of the league table - WELL DONE girls
