Formed in 1980, most of the first twenty odd years were spent in the lower divisions of the SDSFL. Division Three runners-up in 1989/90 and champions of Division Two title in 1992/93 didn't bring long awaited success in the 1st Division and they were immediately relegated when a number of players were recruited by Premier Division teams. They bounced back to the first division in 1995/96 but the next few years were spent slipping between the first and second divisions. In 1999/00 under the managership of Kerry Davenport, the club almost gained their first honours but were beaten at Edgeley Park by Heaton Moor 2-1 in the Paul Bailey/Graham Wright Memorial Trophy. In 2004/05 Real finally got their names on a trophy when they won the Division Two championship with just one defeat all season. They also completed the treble with a victory in the Paul Bailey/Graham Wright Memorial Trophy over Adswood United Reserves by 7-2 and beat High Lane by 5-2 in the Stockport FA Trophy. The following year, Real romped the 1st Division, remaining undefeated all season and in their first season in the Premier Division finished a creditable fourth. They also won the Stockport F A Cup by defeating Queens Bredbury at Edgeley Park 2-0. In 2007/08 they retained the cup with a victory over Victoria Park and finished 2nd in the Premier division. In 2008/09 Real chased hard for the Premier Division title for the first time in the history but were pipped at the post by Cale Green, losing out on goal difference. They retained the Stockport F A Cup and reached the final of the Harold English Trophy before they were unluckily thrown out of the competition
