REDDITCH UNITED - POLESWORTH

Welcome to the first competitive Game of the Season at the new home of the Red’s Under 15’s ‘HIGHGATE’.

The home team starting eleven:

Goal Keeper DAN, Left Back HUDDY, Right Back JT, Centre Half SAM, Centre Half JACKO, Left Midfield EVO, Right Midfield MATTY, Holding Midfielder FLETCH, Attacking Midfielder BUNNY, Strikers SMITHY / CARTY

Bench: ANT, GEORGE NIK, WALDRON, GREENY

The Reds started brightly attacking through the flanks using a range of short passing, through balls and good movement. The midfield linked well with defence and attack, closing down early, and putting the early pressure on a resilient well organised opposing team.

For the 1st 20 minutes it looked like the final ball would never come or the strikers just couldn’t get the right position to connect with the killer pass....oddly enough it seemed like the most likely way the goals were to come would be from a set piece, with a couple of corners and free kicks allowing the Reds to get to try and pull off what they had been practicing midweek.

Midway through the first half the Reds broke the deadlock with the predatory instincts of CARTY latching onto a BUNNY ball to open his account for season.

Reds 1–0 Polesworth

The Reds continued the pressure after the goal and after 5 minutes of resilient defending created an attacking opportunity from the counter attack, forcing the opposition into conceding a free kick from just outside their 18 Yard box.

The set piece units positioned themselves superbly whilst SMITHY got ready to deliver the ball -  with the movement of the team creating confusion the Keeper took his eye off the flight of the ball which had been blasted through his fingertips into the top right hand corner direct from SMITHY.

Reds 2-0 Polesworth

Second Half:

With only one change made(GREEN for CARTY), it was hard to believe why the second half turned out how it did – not enough challenges made, some mad individual decisions and the overall game turned on its head.

This ended up as Polesworth’s half and they were unfortunate not to take at least a draw from the game – once again the Reds game a cropper against opposition set plays brought on by rash challenges.

The first goal was initially well saved by the impressive DAN only for a spill to be latched onto by the opposition striker who had continued to watch the ball while the Reds fell asleep.

Reds 2-1 Polesworth

The pressure was on and the Reds finally got a break when a BUNNY shot was parried by the keeper only to be gobbled up and lashed home by the impressive workhorse GREENY.

Reds 3-1 Polesworth

The second goal once again came from another rash challenge, the ball struck hard and direct leaving DAN no chance.....something for the Reds to work on in midweek.

Reds 3-2 Polesworth

A couple of changes were made during the second half with WALDRON coming on for the hardworking MATTY and GEORGE coming on for 1st half Colossus JACKO.

The final 10 Minutes Redditch rode their luck with x2 set pieces in the same position not challenged, luckily the rub of the green was not with the visitors and both efforts went over the bar from 2 yards.

Final Score:

Redditch United 3 – 2 Polesworth

Reds MOM as chosen by the opposition: BUNNY

  • No scheduled fixtures.
