CLUB HISTORY
REDGATE CLAYTON F.C. Club History (22/03/09)

The Club had its roots in Queen Street Youth Club. In 1969 the Club became Manor Park FC. Initially the Club played in the Longton League, moved on to the Fenton and District League and then progressed to the North Staffs Alliance League. The Club played at Goldenhill Road, Fenton,
sharing a ground with Foley FC. The Club was run from the Duke of Wellington in Fenton.
The first major trophy won by the Club was the Staffs Presidents Cup in the season 1980/81. In the following season the Club moved their base to the Redgate pub in Dresden and changed their name to Redgate United.
Redgate United swept the board winning all honours in the North Staffs Alliance League.
In the season 1983/84, Redgate United were accepted in the Staffs County League and moved to a ground in Stone owned by Bill Bratt. Despite extensive work carried out on that ground, in the following season, Redgate United moved to share St Josephs College pitches with Hanford FC.
During the mid 80’s, Redgate United started a second team initially as a youth side but becoming an adult side after a couple of seasons.
In 1986, Parkway Clayton approached Redgate United to buy
their facilities at Northwood Lane, Clayton. For the season 1987/88, the Club changed its name to Redgate Clayton and began work on a Clubhouse at their new ground. In this season Redgate Clayton became the first Club in the area to win the Walsall Senior Cup
In the early 1990’s, Redgate Clayton dominated local Junior Football becoming the most successful side in the Staffs County League, an honour that the Club still hold. The Club
has won the Staffs Vase for a record four times. On each occasion, the Club beat opposition in the final of higher league status.
During the 80’s/90’s Redgate Clayton actually ran five teams. Two senior Saturday teams, two youth sides and an over 35’s side.
Over their years with the Club the following members of the Committee have been awarded Long Service Certificates by the Staffs FA. Arthur Jackson, Clive Russell, Roger Farr and Rob Lovatt
