In 2006 this team was being moulded and rebuilt from an East Hanny team which was fading and in bad shape. Run by a player it now needed a manager. A new manager stepped in moving the team and bringing new players. Others were also scouted from the local area to form Brightwell Rebels.
The first season saw Brightwell finish second from bottom, winning the last two games of the season. They had played some good football here and there but played with difficulty through out..
Suttle changes in the summer of 2007 saw new players coming, some going and others moving position in a bid to compete within the league. Training and pre-season friendlies Brightwell now looked deadly. Starting to mould well, the team brought flare, easy football and goals from midfield and upfront. We now looked forward to the new season.
2007/2008 season, Brightwell finished top with flying colours winning 80 per cent of their games and reaching the semi finals of the FA County Cup. This was a happy team and very proud of our acheivements.
Penalised points, bans, fines, dispute and lies saw our promotion taken away in unfortunate and questionable circumstances, we also lost the Manager!.
The team decided to stay together, forming a committee and electing a new manager so people knew what really goes on behind the scenes of a sunday league side.
Brightwell need to work as a team on and off the pitch to keep them a good sunday league side... We have un-finished business with the league who we felt had hindered our progress.
For the 2008/2009 season Brightwell lost 3 important players from the team. New players were needed to fill their place and recruitment had begun.
Brightwell now decided to integrate with the local pub to be called Red Lion Brightwell.
Pre-season friendlies and training was useful. Brightwell now knew what and who was needed for the new season 2008/2009.
