Red Stars season petered out at the end,
We expected much more but fro one reason or another it wasnt to be.
As the years go by its quite clear the on paper, the only decent managers we ever had were Mario and Alan Watson. Which is somewhat odd as some players may say they were not are most unpopular,
But popularity never won medals and if things carry on the way they are, another season with Alun in charge and no silverware, could see a major change in direction.
You heard it hear first.
1996/1998 Mario Buglione
1998/1999 John Morritt
1999/2000 Toby Cousins
2000/2001 Chris Cullen
2001/2003 Alun Williams
2003/2007 Alan Watson
2007- Alun Williams
Mario was our first and somewhat arguably our most succesful manager. His flamboyant and unorthadox manner of management seemed to sit well with the current team that had such local stars as Toby, Russell and Mario's son Tony. Not forgetting of course Morritt.
In his first season (our innaugeral year) we finished a respectable 4th and gained promotion from Div 12 to Div 11.
The following year was to be our swan song and to this day our only league winning season.
Marios' ruthlesssness seemed to lend well to a wayward side and his direction turned a skillfull team in to a winning outfit.
It came down to the last game of the season and we needed a draw. Thanks to a last minute goal fro club stalwart Morritt we drew 2-2 and won the division. I still have the trophy on my mantle peice today. Presently, trophy wise Red Stars best season. But not for long me thinks,,,,
Below is the team that won us the league back in 1998.

Mario really was hounded out in a decision that to this day the Central Committee deeply regrets. It wasn't until Mario was kicked out in a dodgy vote orchestrated by the committee that we realised how much he would be missed. Many said that we won the league despite him rather than with him, but it was this love- hate relationship the club had with Mario that spurred us on to victory. Anyway enough about him, this is about John Morritt. A strange choice following Mario and some say he was a put up job by the COmmittee just to get rid of the previous Manager, which of course is a myth.
However, John Morritts' season in charge was a disaster. Not his fault we hasten to add. It was like rats leaving a siking ship. We lost alot of good players and just sunk without trace. Following a dismal season, John was given a vote of confience by the Committee and duly resigned... With a lucrative pay off.
Toby took over where John left off and quickly proved himself to be even more unpopular.
Toby struggled as a player manager and as he was by far the best player on the pitch, none of us could live up to his high expectations. This unusually meant that Toby found himself moaning constantly at other players around him. Through no fault of his own this unsettled the side somewhat. We all hoped to get out of Division 9 during Tobys reign and in this he was succesful.
We were relegated to Division 10.
And Toby moved on...
