Regent registered an emphatic 7-2 victory against Molinero to guarantee a creditable top 4 finish in the final game of their first season in the Zingari Veterans League. The home side dominated the game for long periods as Molinero struggled to cope with their possession football. Charles and Donnelly seeing plenty of the ball were ably assisted on the flanks by Fletcher and Carberry. Garner was also getting forward to good effect and Garrity was always an outlet up front where Morris was also linking up well with the midfield. It was no surprise when the first goal came following a good move involving Donnelly and Garrity whose through ball found Charles who rounded the keeper to the left before firing in off the far post with a neat finish. The second followed soon after when a cross from the left saw Fletcher show great anticipation to come in on the blind side of the defender and fire home from 6 yards. Regent-s confidence grew and another fine move saw them score another. Fletcher hit a lovely cross from the right and the marauding Garner out jumped his marker at the far post to find the net with a great header as the home side threatened to run riot. At the other end, Watterson and Hunter were never in any trouble in the centre of the defence and Bulfield was enjoying another steady game at full back. It was now one way traffic and again it was no surprise when they registered another goal just before half time when Fletcher received the ball on the edge of the box and hit it first time to leave the keeper with no chance.
H-T REGENT 4-0 MOLINERO
Regent were full of confidence and started the second period looking to add to their total but a sloppy start saw them punished early on. The ball was lost on the half way line and Moilnero broke down the left and following a good cross the away team-s striker bundled home from 6 yards. They almost scored again a minute later but Ritchie made a great save tipping a goal bound shot on to the bar. Regent then started to to dominate once again and the dangerous Garrity was fouled 25 yards out following another good move. Carberry took responsibility and curled the resulting free kick superbly round the wall and in off the far post - a tremendous strike with his trusty left foot. Soon after it was 6 when Coyle broke clear down the right and picked out Morris in the box who made no mistake and fired home for his 4th goal in the last 3 games. Regent again got a bit complacent though and another Molinero attack resulted in a second goal as the striker hit a snapshot from 7 yards and it crept in at the near post. Regent responded well after this and went straight back on the offensive. They soon scored again when following a good move from the right the ball broke inside the box to Carberry who hit a fine drive across the goal into the bottom right corner to give the keeper no chance. Overall a great end to the season for Regent who thoroughly deserved this victory and the team should feel proud of how well they have done in their debut campaign. Lessons can be learned from the mistakes made this season and this will serve to make them an even stronger force next season.
