Revolution got off to their usual poor start as they found themselves 1 down after about 5 minutes. Colne Star won a corner which was swung in, the defensive header fell straight to a Colne player who drove the shot in. Going a goal down seemed to stir the Rev in to life and they started to move the ball around nicely utilising the wings to get some good crosses in, Paul coming closest to converting one such cross. Rev got an equaliser after some good work from Patty, whose shot was palmed away by the keeper, Foxy was on hand to slam in the rebound from a tight angle. As the game neared the half, Colne were awarded a rather dubious penalty when Sam was ajudged to of pulled down their attacker in the box. It should of been a Rev free kick as the Colne guy clearly pushed Sam down, but maybe the ref was making amends for the blatant hand ball he had missed earlier in the half. Anyway the spot kick was converted straight down the middle, Denny unlucky not to of kept it out with his feet. Revolution gutted to go in to the break a goal down.
In to the second half and the game remained a closely fought contest. Revolution nearly got themselves level after a brilliant through ball found Mike racing down the right flank, he sped(?) in to the box, and his shot beat the keeper but rebounded back of the inside of the post and was hacked clear.
Revolution were then reduced to 10 men when Clive told the opposing linesmen that he was perhaps being a little unfair (or words to that effect) the ref showed him the red card. His comments were not without justification and the linesman must of had a sore arm the amount of times he halted Rev attacks with his flag.
Revolution where now having to work extra hard, with the numerical disadvantage but thought they had got a penalty when the ref spotted a blatant block on Foxy. He correctly gave an indirect free kick inside the area for obstruction, but what was far from correct was the fact that he did not pull out the red card again as the defender was the last man and clearly had prevented a goal scoring opportunity. Unfortunately nothing came of the free kick. Rev did get the equaliser their play deserved when Sam swung in a brilliant ball that Jason (on as a sub) superbly converted with his left foot on the volley. It looked like the game would end in a draw but Colne scored in the final moments when a free kick was saved by Denny, but the rebound was converted. After the game the Rev players vented their frustration at the ref who had a P**S poor game from start to finish, showing no consistency what so ever at any stage of the match. He then sent off yours truly for foul and abusive language despite the fact i used nothing of the sort.
This was a fantastic performance and if we played like this every week, we would certainly not be near the foot of the table. Same effort next week will surely earn three much needed points. Ali
p.s sorry their was no report from last week, my internet connection was having a 'mare.
