Ridgeway Rovers U13's who played in the Chesthunt premier league 2008-2009 season who will be representing Rymans League, semi-pro club, Ilford Football Club at U14 level in next sesaons 2009-2010 Eastern Junior Alliance in the London Division won the SCI Mitre Ultimatch Tournament in Brean Sands, Weston-Super-Mare.
The 11 a-side Tournament was played over the bank holiday weekend in glorious sunshine with teams from London, Cornwall, Worcester, Wales, Taunton and many other areas. The teams were all premier league clubs and a number were league champions in their own areas ensuring a high standard of football which made Ridgeways performance even more remarkable scoring 14 goals, with maximum points in 7 matches and not conceding a goal throughout the tournament. Rovers advanced to the final playing a team from Taunton. The final was a tense affair with Rovers not taking their early chances leaving it to the last 5 minutes when Harry Puncher popped up to slot the ball home from close range. Rovers comfortably controlled the final 5 minutes to take the title and wrap up a quality squad performance with a fantastic defensive display not conceding any goals in three and half hours of football against quality opposition.
This was a great way to end the season with the players, management and coaching staff all looking forward to the new challenge of playing locally in the Eastern Junior Alliance as Ilford FC's U14's.
