ST DAY V RUAN MINOR 13TH NOVEMBER 2010

It was a Ruan team in transition that made the journey to St Day for the second v third clash. Without Ensink for the first time this season and Bert having joined Penryn the Gaffer signed two new boys from Culdrose and reshuffled his pack yet again. Ruan also missing the influential Morris and Le Gallez could hardly have recognised themselves as they took to the field in St Day. With two debutants and two playing out of position the Gaffer was a little nervy with much riding on the result even at this early stage of the season. In spite of all the changes Ruan started very brightly and with table topping Falmouth watching on, Ruan put on a bit of a show racing in to a 1-0 lead inside the first 8 minutes. It was the speedy Angus who scored first on his league debut, quickly followed by ‘Boult’ on 10 minutes as Ruan took control. Clearly stunned, St Day slowly found their way and began mounting the pressure on Ruans goal. However, Ruan defended manfully and on 32 minutes and broke away with Gasson, who’s cross was deflected in to send Ruan 3-0 up which is how it remained until half time in spite of much St Day pressure.
At half time the Gaffer replaced Roberts who had a steady debut (in the wrong boots) for Vincent, with simple instructions to keep our shape, “defend well don’t let them score too early”. Ruan did just that in the second half with big performance from Tutton and J. Edwards in centre midfield whilst Rogers remained in control at centre back. St Day did make a break through on 75 minutes when Pascoe was a little rash in giving away a penalty which Lee almost saved, but, the match finished 3-1 in Ruans favour. Ruan still remain the only unbeaten side in the Falmouth Helston league which after 10 games is quite an achievement.
