Origins and history to Sept 07

The origins of the current team go back to the summer of 2006 when two of our girls Jess Homer and Lindsay Smith had a kickabout together at Cofton Park and dreamed of joining a team. They and other girls soon followed that dream and after a period of development, spells on loan and various friendly matches here we are some 12 months later - our own u10 team in competitive football.

The girls have benefitted from the input of several coaches at Rubery. John Smith kicked it off, with Steve Homer taking more than a keen interest. Rob Chipman and Steve Dodd took the girls through a scheduled 8 week course in the summer and our female coaches Natalie and Sally picked up the baton from there. They have been assisted also by Billy, Mary and Nicola. Natalie is currently taking the prime responsibility.

The girls acquitted themselves well in 5 a sides during the summer, reaching the semi final stage of our own competition at Baytree.

Season 07-08
05 May 2008

The girls kicked off their season with a 5-0 defeat v fancied title contenders Glebe Farm.

The weeks that followed saw steady improvement and new players joined the squad.

By the end of the season the girls had finished 3rd in the table, desperately close to finishing 2nd, and were the only team to beat champions Glebe Farm, a significant mark of progress compared to the opening day score of 5-0.

The highlight of 07-08 was a brave display in a 2-0 defeat to Glebe in the Open Cup final at West Midlands Travel.
