Match report Sun 7 Oct 07 v Studley Road
Studley Road FC 0 v 3 Rubery FC
Rubery still with injuries that restrict their team selection went into this game still looking for their first win of the season which came after a workman like performance at Studley Road. It was as early as the 5th minute when Adam Holland powered home a shot that beat the keeper wide to his left that signalled that Rubery were here to get a result that had eluded them in the past weeks. The Rubery defence held firm under any pressure that Studley did put on them, but that was few and far between and the attacks that Rubery put together looked dangerous and they should have converted more chances in the half then they did. The Rubery forwards had a tough time of it as any ball played up to them in the air was snuffed out by the 2 big centre halves of Studley but on the floor they were a match for anyone but had to make do with a slender lead at half time. H/T 0-1. The second half started well for Rubery again pushing Studley back and as the half wore on there looked like there would only be one outcome but that second goal just would not arrive until with 64 minutes on the clock, Marc Holland came in from the right to pick up a pass threaded through to him, he rounded the defender and slotted the ball into the bottom corner away to the keepers left to extend Rubery’s advantage. That seemed to calm any nerves that were left and Rubery started to cut Studley apart and on 78 mins Adam Holland extended Rubery’s lead further with another good strike. Rubery had to endure a last ten minutes with only ten men as after all the good work Adam Holland had done during the game he blotted his copybook when he was dismissed for a second bookable offence to most peoples dismay but Rubery defended well to see out the half to gain their first win and 3 points
