CLUB HISTORY
2005/2006 (22/03/06)

Russell Park United Football Club was founded in early 2005 by visionaries Lee Scorer and step-son Matthew Babb.

Babb was installed as Club Chairman, Lee Scorer became Team Manager and Michael Dilley took on the roles of Club Secretary and Treasurer.

In June 2005 the club were officially accepted into the Bedford & District Football League Division Two for the 2005/2006 season, and played their first league game on Saturday 3rd September against Marston Shelton Rovers. However it was a rude-awakening for the Park as they lost 6-0!

RPU’s first league point was secured a week later away to fellow new-boys Twinwoods Thistle, with Andrew Oldham securing the honour of scoring Russell Park United’s first league goal.

The first league victory came in a 4-3 victory away to Lidlington United on 1st October. Andrew Oldham (2), Mikel Duli and Shaun Winconek were the Park goalscorers.

The team finished their inaugural season in a respectable 12th place with 5 wins to their name. Aaron Babb picked up the Player and Manager’s Player of the Season awards, Shaun Winconek topped the goal scoring charts and Gavin Dore won Most Improved Player.

2006/2007 (26/07/07)

It was all change for the start of the 2006/2007 season. The team moved to Thurleigh, Dave Tarrant took over the reigns as Chairman and Lee Scorer took on the role of Treasurer.

On the pitch performances were much improved, with striker Gary Higgins finishing the division's top scorer with an impressive 29 league goals.

Highlights of the season include 7-1 (home) and 5-1 (away) victories over Potton Wanderers and an epic 5-4 win against Twinwoods Thistle at Thurleigh in March - an injury-time winner from Aaron Lea sealing the points.

Scorer stated his intention to step down as Team Manager around a month before the season's end, with Richard Howlett taking over managerial duties.

At the end of the campaign The Park finished 13th in the 15 team Division Two, collecting 8 wins and scoring 62 goals, and it was announced that the club would be joining the Michael R Peters Bedford & District Sunday Football League the following season.

2007/2008 (28/04/08)

There was more change for the 2007/08 season as the Park moved to the Michael R Peters Bedford & District Sunday Football League.

The 07/08 season was also the most successful in the club's history to date, after a 6-1 win against Star Clapham sealed a third place finish in the league, and only a 1-0 defeat to Marston Reds prevented the Blue Army from playing in the D&V Millward Cup Final.

Highlights from the season include the 6-1 win against Star Clapham, a 3-2 victory at previously undefeated Sir William Peel Sandy in March and the D&V Millward Cup run, which heralded a total of 30 goals in 9-1, 8-1 and 13-0 wins against Wootton Park Rangers Reserves, Meppershall Jurassic and North End Astros respectively.

Gary Higgins was again top scorer, hitting an incredible 68 goals in just 21 games.

The Park finished the season with an 11 game unbeaten run in the league, including winning the last 10 games in succession.

In total RPU won 13 of 20 league games in the 2007/08 season, drew 3 and lost 4, scoring 94 goals in the process (the second highest in the entire league).

Eddie Haddow was named Player's Player of the Year, Gary Higgins picked up the award for Manager's Player and Top Goalscorer, Ben Norrish won the Most Improved Player Award, Richard Howlett was named Clubman and Chris Fountain picked up a special award for his services to linesmanship.

The club also announced that from the start of the 2008/09 season Russell Park United Football Club would be no more, as KEMPSTON CONSTITUTIONAL CLUB F.C. are born.

At the end of May it was confirmed that the club had been promoted to the Modplan Preservation Fourth Division from the start of the 2008/09 season.
