History

From Humble Beginnings.
08 Jul 2008

Before Ryde Saints, the representitive of the town was Ryde Sports Football Club which formed in 1888. Unfortunately the club saw its demise from Wessex League football in December 1997 after financial problems and a player exodus.

A new club, Ryde ’98 was then formed to replace the forementioned team and played in the Isle of Wight League but never climbed out of the basement division and folded in 2004.

The sole representatives of the town now lies with Ryde Saints.
It originally started as a 6-a-side team over 10 years ago but unlike our predecessors have grown in stature and climbed from the bottom division to the middle tier and stabilized.
We have now become a solid side who have narrowly missed out on promotion to Division 1 on the last four seasons, (2004-2007).

Since those humble beginning we have also expanded in size and run a Reserve side in the Isle of Wight Combination League and, like our first team, have grown to become a steady Combination 1 side, playing, (and more than often), holding our own against sides who are seen as the favourites prior to kick off.
More info can be found on the Reserves home page.

We have also started up an U18’s team in the last couple of seasons and have this season, (2008/09), entered into the Hampshire U18’s League where some of these youngsters will be competing against some formidible opposition. This is hoped to give them vital experience to give them a good grounding for the step up to adult football.
More information can be found on the U18’s home page.
