The London & Southern England Supporters Branch of Sunderland AFC,was formed in 1967. Created by many Sunderland exiles living in the capital and surrounding home counties.
A founder member of the Association of Provisional Football Supporters Clubs in London. (A.P.F.S.C.I.L) it has a long history of a branch team playing football in London.
The branch has had a representative football team in the APFSCIL Sunday leagues on and off over the decades. Last playing in the league in the mid 1990's.
The team re-entered the APFSCIL Sunday League in the 2006/7 season, starting in its Division 2.
Having finished 3rd for 06/07, 07/08 and 08/09 plus a Cup Semi-Final appearance in the 07/08 season. The branch team finally won some silverware in 09/10 when they became champions of Division 2. In their first season in Division 1 the lads just lost out to back to back championships by finishing runners up in 10/11.
The team was also previously nicknamed 'The Flamingo's'within the branch.
Believed due to the colours of red and white running into each other after being washed too much at the wrong temprature in the 1980's.
A nickname that has since stayed with some of the older members.
The Branch team re-formed properly in January 2006 with FA Affiliation. Originally members of the APFSCIL Sunday League, formed in 1967. Having graced the League over the decades, the team dropped out in the early 1990's. Playing only the odd friendly since with numerous people organising these over the post league years.
The first friendly of 2006 was against a Barnet Borough Police works team, which ended in a 4-3 defeat for the SAFCSA branch.
A rematch in April culminated in the lads first win 8-3.
Followed by a friendly against Aberdeen 2nds in May,post season for the Aberdeen side. Which again led to a good 2-0 victory for the lads. From here the team decided to enter the APFSCIL Sunday League in 2006/7.
Since then the team has grown steadily in numbers and followers.
Since January 2006, the team currently play all their home games at the Peel Centre, Aerodrome Road, Hendon, NW9 5JE
Near to the RAF Hendon Musuem and Colindale Tube Station.
The Branch Team won its first APFSCIL Sunday League title since reforming in 2006. The lads went a magnificent 20 league matches unbeaten winning 17 and drawing 3 throughout the 2009/10 season. This was a fine tribute to the hard working squad and for the efforts in previous seasons whereby the branch players who have come and gone finished 3rd for three seasons running. It was from this framework that the lads grew from strength to strength and finally reaping the reward.
